PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material testing machine capable of reducing the error quantity contained in a measurement result, after correction on drift and capable of arbitrarily setting the upper limit for the errors of the measuring result. SOLUTION: In the material testing machine, equipped with a load mechanism 14 for pressing an indenter 13 to a sample W, under a set load and a displacement detection means 16 for detecting the displacement of the indenter 13, expected test time T and an allowable error quantity E are preliminarily input, and in a state with the load to the sample W being substantially zero in a stopped state of the load mechanism 14, momentary changing displacement data D[i] of the indenter 13 are fetched, and a drift correction formula is calculated by using these data. After the drift correction formula that has been updated is updated, until the maximum deviation quantity of the respective displacement data D[i], with respect to the drift correction formula, becomes the allowable error quantity, by determining the drift correction formula terminated to receive the errors contained in the displacement data, after the correction is set within an allowable error quantity E, based on high probability.
