<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffraction element for reducing an incident straightly-transmitted light by realizing a diffraction element having a single diffraction grating forming face. <P>SOLUTION: A unit region 10 is arrayed in a periodical manner on a translucent substrate 1, has three or more odd regions having different phases to an incident light with a wavelength λ, and includes the region in which the phase difference between an average of the phases in the unit region 10 and odd divided small regions is zero, the region 10 in which the phase difference is a multiple times of the natural number of π, and the region in which the phase difference is a multiple of the natural number multiple of -π.
