A system and a method for informing a change of a traffic light using image recognition are provided to enhance user convenience by informing a driver that the traffic light is changed to a desired color. A signal light(50) indicates a driving direction. A signal light direction detector(60) detects turn on/off of the signal light and the driving direction. An image unit(30) photographs a traffic light and converts the photographed image to image data. A storing unit(20) stores color patterns of the traffic light and image patterns corresponding to a traffic light shape so as to detect the traffic light. An alarming unit(80) generates an alarming signal based on the change of the traffic light. A controller(10) compares the image data with traffic light patterns, detects the traffic light, recognizes the color of the traffic light according to a comparison between the traffic light patterns and the color patterns, and services a driving direction information through the alarming unit based on the recognized and detected results. |
