A measuring cell for electrodes and electrode coating has two electrodes of opposite polarity arranged in parallel to each other on opposite sides of a membrane. The electrodes are supported by cross-pieces that also sub-divide the chamber into compartments. One electrode segment is located in each compartment. The electrode segments the test chamber, acts as the test segment and reference segment. There is no structure acting as an electrical conductor between the test and reference segments, and each has an individual power supply. Also claimed is a process for the operation of the measuring cell.
