The shelving unit (1) has an insulated body and comprises several compartments (8) for the storage of food. Cold air is created by an evaporator (4) and a fan (3) at the bottom of the unit (1) and guided through a space at the back (6) of the unit (1) and through spaces (9) in the individual shelves (2). The shelves (2) are fitted with deflectors (10) at their front edges leading the stream of cold air downwards along the lower shelves (2) and back to the cooling unit (3, 4). Three individual cooling streams (11, 12, 13) are created in the process.
