HYDRAULIC RETARDER AND CONTROL A hydraulic retarder has a control valve mechanism with a regulator valve for controlling the pressure of the fluid delivered to the retarder as a function of operator demand and an operating parameter of the retarder. The regulator valve has an opening pressure bias that is determined by a retarder signal valve which is responsive to an operator input and a closing pressure bias determined by the outlet pressure of the retarder.
