<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a rare earth magnet having characteristics of both high electric resistance and high coercive force, without being influenced by oxidation when the magnet is manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a R-T-B rare earth magnet includes a blending process which mixes a compound A which is at least one selected from a group comprising fluoride, oxide and inorganic salt of heavy rare earth element, and a compound B which is hydride of alkaline earth metal, into R-T-B based rare earth alloy powder, a cold forming process, a hot forming process, and a thermal treatment process. The heavy rare earth element is diffused to R rich grain boundary phase near R<SB>2</SB>Fe<SB>14</SB>B crystal in a hot formed body by causing the compound A to react with the compound B in the hot forming process and the thermal treatment process. A compound C, which is at least one selected from a group comprising fluoride, oxide and inorganic salt of the alkaline earth metal, is formed between the R-Fe-B rare earth alloy powders. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
