PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit that conducts image processing without deterioration when high image quality is a requirement and conducts image processing to reduce the data quantity when there is a possibility of requirement of the image storage. SOLUTION: In the case of copying an original by using a flat bed read section 17, a multi-value resolution conversion section 20 applies resolution conversion to a read multi-value image and a binary section 21 threshold process the processed multi-value image. Thus, resolution conversion processing is applied to the binarized image without deteriorating the image quality. Furthermore, in the case of faxing or copying an original by an automatic original feed read section 18, the binary section 21 applies threshold processing to the multi-value image without resolution conversion and an image memory 27 stores the processed image. Then in the case of recording, a binary resolution conversion section 23 converts resolution of the image into a resolution at recording and a recording section 24 records the image whose resolution is converted. Since the read resolution is lower than the resolution at recording, the memory can store a smaller amount of data with the read resolution. |
