Fabricating gas permeable electrodes for membrane fuel cells comprises: (1) preimpregnating carbon (C) with a solution of anions or cations of platinum (Pt); (2) mixing the preimpregnated C with an ionomer solution; (3) applying the mixture to a carbonaceous support; and (4) reducing the Pt by electrochemical means by mounting the electrode as cathode and conducting electrolysis with an aqueous electrolyte.
