PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an olefinc compound, capable of safely and economically producing olefins or dienes from alkynes. SOLUTION: This method for producing the olefinic compound comprises reacting an organic boron compound of which the boron atom has an organic radical with an acetylenic compound in the presence of a transition metal catalyst (such as a group 8 element in the periodic table, a group 9 element therein, and a group 10 element therein) so as to produce the olefinic compound to which the organic radical is added. The reaction can be accelerated, when the reaction is carried out by making a proton source (such as water) coexist. Further, the reaction can increase a formation ratio of a compound having plural carbon-carbon double bonds, when the reaction is carried out by making a nitrogen-containing compound coexist.
