The invention relates to a method and a system for regulating/controlling a total air ratio of a reformer (10) which comprises at least one combustio n zone (12) and an evaporation zone (14) connected to said combustion zone ( 12). The invention is characterized in that an air ratio of the combustion z one (12) is regulated and a fuel rating fed to the combustion zone (12) and the evaporation zone (14) is controlled to regulate/control the total air ra tio. The invention also relates to a system comprising a reformer (10) which comprises at least one combustion zone (12) and an evaporation zone (14) co nnected to said combustion zone (12), and a controller (26) for regulating/c ontrolling a total air ratio of the reformer (10). The invention is characte rized in that the controller (26) is adapted to regulate an air ratio of the combustion zone (12) and to control the fuel rating fed to the combustion z one (12) and the evaporation zone (14) to regulate/control the total air rat io.
