PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route search method automatically requesting a route search from a server when determining that it is better to perform the route search with the server, based on a switching condition. SOLUTION: In the navigation device, a navigation route search means searches for a navigation route by using information for route computation. Then, a first determination means determines whether the searched navigation route satisfies a switching condition, based on switching condition information. If it is determined that it satisfies the switching condition, a search request information transmitting means transmits search request information for requesting the route search from a server, including the departure point and the destination. Thus, a route search is requested from the server only if there is a high possibility that a route search by the server has an advantage, without depending on a user's determination.
