PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to efficiently perform retreating of a maintenance mechanism for maintaining an inkjet head and to make miniaturization possible by making an excess space for retreating unnecessary. SOLUTION: The image recording apparatus includes a maintenance unit 60. In this maintenance unit 60, when an image is recorded, for example, respective maintenance mechanisms 62-65 for KCMY colors are piled up in the vertical direction (Z-axis direction) and are retreated at an upper position than a position to which a recording medium 3 is conveyed and on feeding side of the recording medium 3, and when the maintenances of respective inkjet heads 40-44 for these KCMY colors are performed, the respective maintenance mechanisms 62-65 for the KCMY colors are moved downward and then, are moved in the parallel direction against the conveying direction (X-axis direction) of the recording medium 3, to stand face to face the respective maintenance mechanisms 62-65 for these KCMY colors to the respective inkjet heads 40-44 for corresponding KCMY colors.
