PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a coating speed and the uniformity of a coating film by improving the wettability between a strip material and a coating liquid in the course of coating the strip material with the coating liquid. SOLUTION: A method for coating the strip material is for coating one or both sides of the front and back surface of the strip material 5 made of metals or plastics with the coating liquid by a coating head 1. An additive, for lowering the surface tension of the coating liquid, is preliminarily added to the coating liquid of a coating liquid tank 2 and the added coating liquid is applied after adjusting the surface tension of the coating liquid.
