PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating polyvinyl acetate and other similar ingredient of a gum base or a chewing gum product. SOLUTION: This apparatus comprises separating the material of the ingredient to individual broken pieces with a mass crusher 40 followed by transporting to a cyclone receiver 42 and a holding bottle 44 with an air transporting device 46. A capacitive feeder sends the material to a side feeder 22, and the side feeder sends the material to a main continuous extruder to be used for making a final gum base or gum product. A specific adapter 30 connects the side feeder with the main continuous extruder, and enables repair and/or remodel of the side feeder without separating the side feeder from the main continuous extruder.
