PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack shaft supporting device that is capable of reliably compensating a biasing load to a pinion side to ensure suppression of abnormal noise generation on the occurrence of wear.SOLUTION: A rack shaft supporting device 15 comprises, between a support yoke 18 and a closing member 19: a biasing member 27 for biasing the support yoke 18 to a rack shaft 8 side; a first rotatable intermediate member 20; a second non-rotatable intermediate member 21; and a cam mechanism 26. The cam mechanism 26 includes cam surfaces provided in opposing surfaces of the intermediate members 20, 21 respectively, and rolling elements 25 engaging both cam surfaces. Thereby a total length L2 of both intermediate members 20, 21 in a depth direction X1 is smoothly increased as the first intermediate member 20 is rotated by a torque biasing spring 22 so as to keep a set length L3 of the biasing member 27 nearly constant. |
