PURPOSE:To obtain colored, high-strength and high-elasticity modulus polyethylene material by a method wherein the mixture of specified ultra-high-molecular- weight polyethylene, dye and pigment is oriented at the temperature below the melting point of said polyethylene. CONSTITUTION:The mixture of 100 pts. wt. of ultra-high-molecular-weight poly ethylene powder having the intrinsic viscosity in decalin at 135 deg.C of 5 - 50 dl/g and 0.001 - 50 pts. wt. of dye and/or pigment is prepared in advance. Next, said mixture is compression-molded at the temperature below the melting point of said ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene powder and, after that, oriented so as to produce colored and oriented polyethylene material. The preferable shape of the ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene used is normally granular and powdered one having the desirable particle diameter of about 10 - 1,000 mum. As the orienting following the compression molding, normally stretching is performed and the stretching temperature lies within the range below the melting point of the matter to be oriented. |
