PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which never increase in man-hour of manufacturing and is reliable in alignment of molecules of liquid crystal even at a periphery of a columnar spacer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a first substrate and a second substrate arranged opposite each other across the liquid crystal, the columnar spacer formed on the surface of the first substrate on the liquid crystal side, and an alignment film formed on the surface of the second substrate on the liquid crystal side while having a recessed portion opposite the head of the columnar spacer, and is characterized in that the alignment film is subjected to optical alignment processing.
