PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smoothing apparatus to surely carry out smoothing without leaving any abutting mark to a resin covered roller. SOLUTION: The smoothing apparatus for the resin covered roller smoothes the resin covered roller by heating the surface of the resin covered roller to a first temperature T0 which is higher than softening temperature or the melting temperature of resin and then moving the surface of an abutting member with its surface which is provided with surface roughness that is smaller than the surface of the resin covered roller and heated to a second temperature T1 which is higher than the first temperature T0, while abutted to the surface of the resin covered roller. When the temperature detected by a surface temperature detecting means is lowered to a third temperature T which is lower than the first temperature T0 but not softening or melting the resin, the abutting member is abutted to the surface of the resin covered roller by an abutting means, the abutting member is heated by a heating member so that the abutting member is made to be the second temperature T1 and then the abutting member is moved so that the resin covered roller is made smooth while abutted to the surface of the resin covered roller by a moving means.
