PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality or at least the appearance of the axially oriented side face of a belt and to provide a method in place of a known rotary grinding process.

SOLUTION: The method is for processing a continuous metal belt (10) having two radially oriented main faces (14) and two axially oriented side faces (15), in particular for processing the side faces (15). The radius or thickness of the belt (10) is reduced by a known rolling process. At least as a part of the rolling process, at least a transition edge between at least one of the two side faces (15) and the main faces (14) of the belt (10) is subjected to a shaping process executed with the aid of processing elements (26 and 27) which work on the side faces (15).
