The invention relates to filter elements and to a method for the production thereof. The aim of the invention was to provide membrane elements that ensure both a complete sealing of the membrane film in the edge areas as well as the mechanical attachment of the membrane film to the supporting element without the attachment and sealing leading to the occurrence of dead volumes or dead zones that can render cleaning considerably difficult. In addition, a simple and economical production feasibility is of particular importance. It was surprisingly discovered that filtration elements comprised of a supporting element, which is joined to a membrane on both sides, can be produced so that they are sturdy enough to eliminate the need for spacer elements that support the membrane elements. As a result, dead volumes rarely occur in a filtration module equipped with the inventive filter elements.
