<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for managing operation option and configuration of a machine. <P>SOLUTION: This method includes providing a software operation key (SOK) separable from a machine. The SOK includes a wireless interface and a memory, and the memory further includes a programmable serial area and an option code. The method further includes placing the software operation key into the machine, reading via the wireless interface the programmable serial area of the memory, and if it is blank, initializing by use of a machine identification number, and if it is not blank, comparing the content of the programmable serial area with the machine identification number, and reading the memory via the wireless interface and placing the option code into the machine.
