<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide and an optical waveguide module in which transmission loss of light is reduced when light is transmitted between the optical waveguide and such external elements as a light emitting element and a light receiving element. <P>SOLUTION: The optical waveguide 3 includes an upper clad layer 33, a lower clad layer 31 and a core layer 32 which is sandwiched between the upper clad layer 33 and the lower clad layer 31, and is extended in a prescribed direction. The optical waveguide 3 has a pair of end faces intersecting with the extended direction are tilted. The tilted faces are composed of the end face of the upper clad layer 33, the end face of the core layer 32 and the end face of the lower clad layer 31, and is tilted out from the upper clad layer 33 side to the lower clad layer 31 side. The angle between the tilted faces and the optical axis (axis along the extended direction of the optical waveguide 3) in the core layer 32 is approximately 45 degrees. The thickness of the central part in the extended direction of the core layer 32 and the thickness of the end part of the core layer 32 are different from each other.
