<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shellfish selection method to select the spawn of shellfish having high survival probability by detecting a transcription product derived from a maternal gene relating to the survival probability of spawn and provide a probe and a primer for the method, a carbonic anhydrase gene which is one of the maternal genes and a carbonic anhydrase as a product of the gene. <P>SOLUTION: A carbonic anhydrase gene derived from the pallium of common oyster and having two duplicate carbonic anhydrase domains is separated and the base sequence of the DNA of the gene is determined. It has been confirmed that the gene has high expression level in the cell of spawn (lane 4) compared with in the pallium (lane 3) by preparing a DNA probe based on the base sequence and carrying out Northern hybridization on the transcription products of various cells. Accordingly, the gene is one of maternal genes and the spawn of shellfish having high survival probability can be selected by detecting the expression of the gene. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
