PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crucible for melting silicon which is sparingly distorted in melting silicon and not requiring an outer crucible made of carbon in a crucible receiving solid silicon when melting the solid silicon and to provide a method for producing the same crucible. SOLUTION: By repeating an arbitrary number of times an operation in which silica sand 8 is scattered on the surface of a slurry layer to form a stucco layer 6a after making a slurry mixed with silica powder adhere to the surface of a brazed mold having an identical shape with that of the internal space of a desired crucible, a crucible shell where the slurry layer and the stucco layer 6a are alternately superimposed is formed and then the brazed mold is melted and removed, followed by firing the crucible shell.
