PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder for recording a video signal reproduced by a video signal reproducer not performing detection of a duplicate control signal after processing the video signal such that it cannot be recorded normally by other video signal recorder. SOLUTION: When a CGMS signal being detected by a CGMS detection circuit 5a allows one-time copy, a macrovision signal attaching circuit 7 inserts a macrovision signal into a brightness signal Y. When the macrovision signal is not detected by an AGC macrovision signal detection circuit 1, an AGC circuit 9 is switched such that a keyed AGC does not act on a sync signal narrower than 2μs. Consequently, a video signal is recorded, as it is, on a magnetic tape without performing signal level compression by the macrovision signal inserted from the macrovision signal attaching circuit 7.
