An apparatus and a method for supplying sound effect are provided to allow a user to watch a broadcasting program with the optimum sound effect by supplying a plurality of sound effect modes according to a genre of an audio signal of the broadcasting program. A genre detecting unit(30) extracts information, which defines a genre included in a received broadcasting program, to detect a genre of an audio signal. A sound effect module unit(40) extracts a plurality of sound effect modes corresponding to the detected genre of the audio signal from a memory, and converts the extracted sound effect modes. A display unit(60) displays the converted sound effect modes correspondingly to the genre of the audio signal. A controller(80) sequentially outputs the plurality of sound effect modes at a predetermined time interval.
