The method involves activating the belt tightener (10) so that a safety belt (6) is brought from a normal position into a second position in which the safety belt is tightened more than in the normal position, whereby the activation of the belt tightener takes place independently of a hazard situation. An independent claim is also included for a safety arrangement for a motor vehicle with an inventive device.
