PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method employing a liquid quenching method which can acquire an N-type Bi<SB>2</SB>Te<SB>3</SB>-based thermoelectric material having an excellent performance index. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing a thermoelectric material is provided with a thin-piece powder forming process of supplying a molten metal containing Bi and Te onto a rotating roll to form the metal into a thin-piece powder by the liquid quenching method; a preparatory molding process of pressing a dice in which the thin-piece powder is filled so that a surface (c) may be aligned substantially in parallel in a height direction in at least the center of a widthwise direction, in the axial direction same as the height direction of the dice at a temperature lower than the baking temperature of the thermoelectric material, to preparatorily mold the powder in multiple steps; and a hotpress process for applying hotpress to the preparatorily molded thin-piece powder while pressing the powder in the axial direction same as the pressing direction in the preparatory molding process.
