The motor has an output stage (122) and a measuring resistor (242) detecting measuring value for the current flowing into the stage. An over-current measuring unit (152) evaluates the valve and detects the current exceeding a given threshold value. A hold unit generates and stores an over current signal in the measuring resistor and conveys a corresponding signal to the stage to counteract the over-current. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling an electronically commutated motor.
