A device for alarming a rear side, having a wrong alarm preventing function, and a method thereof are provided to prohibit a wrong and unnecessary alarm when moving a vehicle backward. A device for alarming a rear side, having a wrong alarm preventing function comprises a rear object sensing unit(30), an alarming unit(50), a vehicle speed detecting unit(40), and a control unit(10). The rear object sensing unit senses an object of the rear side and measures a distance to the detected object. The alarming unit generates an alarm sound. The vehicle speed detecting unit outputs a value of measured vehicle speed. The control unit generates the alarm through the control unit when sensing changes of the distance to the detected object by inputting the value of the vehicle speed when detecting the object as the vehicle is moved backward. A method thereof includes a step of inspecting the changes of the distance by comparing the distance to the finally-measured object with the re-measured distance when inputting the value of the vehicle speed; and a step of generating the alarm when sensing the changes of the distance.
