PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely and easily producing phosphorus-containing butadiene compounds in high selectivity and in an industrially advantageous way without using any toxic halide. SOLUTION: The method comprises the following process: Phosphorus-containing allyl alcohol(s) of general formula(1):R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>CHC(OH)(R<SP>1</SP>)-CH=CR<SP>4</SP>[P(O)X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>] and/or general formula(2):R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>CHC(OH)(R<SP>1</SP>)-C[P(O)X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>]=CR<SP>4</SP>H is(are) dehydrated preferably in the presence of an acid to produce the objective phosphorus-containing butadiene compound(s) of general formula(3):R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>C=C(R<SP>1</SP>)-CH=CR<SP>4</SP>[P(O)X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>] and/or general formula(4): R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>C=C(R<SP>1</SP>)-C[P(O)X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>2</SP>]=CR<SP>4</SP>H. In general formulas(1) to (4), X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are each an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, alkenyl, alkoxy or aryloxy; and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each H, an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, alkenyl, alkoxy, aryloxy or silyl.
