PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which a function for making a transition to ink stop state upon power failure can be incorporated while reducing the size and cost by providing the backup circuit of a DC power supply. SOLUTION: In the ink jet recorder comprising an ink circulating section, and a section for supplying power to a control section, the power supply section comprises a power supply unit for converting AC power supplied from a commercial power supply to DC power, a DC power supply backup circuit for storing DC power converted by the power supply unit and supplying DC power to the ink circulating section and the control section when DC power supply from the power supply unit is stopped due to power failure, and a circuit for detecting power failure and informing occurrence of power failure to the control section. The control section is provided with a power failure program performing minimum required designation for cleaning a nozzle and retreating data under processing to the recorder when power failure is detected by the power failure detection circuit.
