A method of determining whether a subject is suffering from or at risk for developing inflammatory diseases by determining the level of HM 74 and/or HM 74 A in tissue damage. Also disclosed are a method of identifying a compound for treating inflammatory diseases, a method of treating inflammatory diseases, and a pharmaceutical composition or a packaged product for treating inflammatory diseases.
