PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electrophoresis particles excellent in memory properties, a method for efficiently generating the electrophoresis particles, an image display medium containing the electrophoresis particles, and an image display having the image display medium. SOLUTION: The method for generating the electrophoresis particles includes a polymerizing group addition process for adding a polymerizing group to the surface of carbon black by using a silane coupling agent having the polymerizing group, a cationic group addition process for adding a cationic group to the surface of the carbon black by using a silane coupling agent having a cationic group, and a graft polymerization process for performing graft polymerization on the surface of the carbon black by using the polymerizing group. Preferably, the polymerizing group addition process and the cationic group addition process are carried out by using a silane coupling agent having both the polymerizing group and the cationic group.
