PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new organic compound usable e.g. for a fluorescent probe responding to hydrogen peroxide in high selectivity. SOLUTION: The compound functions as a highly selective fluorescent probe responding exclusively to hydrogen peroxide without responding to superoxide, hydroxyl radical and singlet oxygen based on an absolutely new fluorescence reaction composed of a simple deprotection reaction. Examples of the compound are O-pentafluorobenzenesulfonylated products 1a-1c of fluorescent fluoresceins 3a-3c as shown in the scheme 2. The acetylated products 2a-2c (scheme 3) of the compound 1a-1c, especially the products 2a and 2c are usable as a fluorescent probe for detecting hydrogen peroxide generated in a cell and selectively detecting the intracellular oxidation stress caused by hydrogen peroxide in a freshwater Chlorophyceae, Chlamydomonas reinharadtii.
