PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for manufacturing a calcium salt of (E)-7-[4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-isopropyl-2-[methyl(methylsulfonyl)amino]pyrimidin-5-yl](3R, 5S)-3,5-dihydroxyhept-6-enoic acid.

SOLUTION: The process includes the acidic hydrolysis of an acetal protective group of a compound represented by formula (7) (wherein A is an acetal or ketal protective group; and R is alkyl), the isolation of a crystalline compound of the resultant compound, and the hydrolysis of the resultant compound, thus preparing a dihydroxycarboxylate derivative.
