<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that stably forms an image over a long period of time by suppressing fixing of a toner component to an image carrier, especially killifish-like filming and the occurrence of an image degradation caused by the killifish-like filming. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A toner image on a photoreceptor drum 20 which is developed by a developing device 50 is transferred to an intermediate transfer belt 11. The surface of the photoreceptor drum 20 after transfer is polished by two brush rollers 40A and 40B, to remove toner remaining after transfer. Trajectories obtained such that the top ends of the fibers of the respective brush rollers 40A and 40B come into contact with the photoreceptor drum 20 and then, travel on the photoreceptor drum 20 have a predetermined angle in the rotational direction of the photoreceptor drum 20. The angles of the trajectories obtained such that the top ends of the brushes come into contact with the photoreceptor drum 20 and then, travel thereon when the rotational direction of the photoreceptor drum 20 is set at 0° are positive and negative on the two brush rollers.
