PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacitor-charging and -discharging ignition device that can ensure a wide range of spark advance in a simple construction, allowing downsizing and weight reduction of the entire unit, and easy production at low cost. SOLUTION: This device comprises a rotor 1 that has two different magnetic poles 5, 6 in rotational direction, an iron core 7 having a pair of leg portions 8, 9 and provided on a fixed side in a manner to face the rotor 1, and a magneto coil 10 wound on one leg portion 9 of the iron core 7. A capacitor is charged by a positive output of the magneto coil 10 and a switching element is conducted by a negative output of the magneto coil 10 to discharge the electric charges of the capacitor to an ignition coil. The magneto coil 10 is disposed on the leg portion 9 of the iron core 7 which is located on the side rearward of the other leg portion 8 in the direction of rotation of the rotor 1, thus prolonging a time for generating the negative output of the magneto coil 10.
