<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively give tension to a loose side portion of an endless transmission member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This engine comprises a crankshaft 37 journaled to a crankcase 11, a camshaft 28 journaled to a cylinder assembly 9 joined to the crankcase 11, a cam chain 57 wound between a driving sprocket 55 fixed onto the crankshaft 37 and a driven sprocket 56 fixed onto the camshaft 28 and stored in the cylinder assembly 9, a tension rail 59 provided for abutting on the loose side portion 57b of the cam chain 57, and a tensioner 60 for thrusting the tension rail 59 to give tension to the loose side portion 59b.
