The novel alloy used to at least partially form the medical device improves one or more properties (e.g., strength, durability, hardness, biostability, bendability, coefficient of friction, radial strength, flexibility, tensile strength, tensile elongation, longitudinal lengthening, stress-strain properties, improved recoil properties, radiopacity, heat sensitivity, biocompatibility, improved fatigue life, crack resistance, crack propagation resistance, etc.) of such medical device.

A method for forming a medical device comprising the steps of: a) selecting a metal alloy, said metal alloy including a majority weigh percent molybdenum; b) processing the metal alloy by 1) melting the metal alloy or metals that form the metal alloy or 2) consolidating said metal powder of the metal alloy or metal powder of metals; and, c) at least partially forming said processed metal alloy into an orthopedic device or an orthodontics device, said orthopedic device is selected from the group consisting of a orthopedic nail, orthopedic rod, orthopedic post, orthopedic cage, bone plate, pedicle screw, joint system, bone anchor, bone spacer, spinal implant, spinal disk, spinal ball, tension band, bone implant, and prosthetic implant; said orthodontics device is selected from the group consisting of a dental restoration, dental implant, crown, dental bridge, braces, dentures, tooth spacer, teeth retainer, dental plates, palatal expander, orthodontic headgear, orthodontic archwire, teeth aligners, and quadhelix; said step of forming including I) extruding or casting said processed metal alloy into said orthopedic device or said orthodontics device or forming an intermediary shape of said orthopedic device or said orthodontics device, or II) forming a metal strip form said processed metal alloy and then rolling and welding the strip into said orthopedic device or said orthodontics device or forming an intermediary shape of said orthopedic device or said orthodontics device, or Ill) isostatically pressing metal powder together and subsequently sintering said metal powder to form said orthopedic device or said orthodontics device or forming an intermediary shape of said orthopedic device or said orthodontics device.
