<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more enhance cycle characteristics when intermittent cycles are repeated in a lithium ion secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: In the lithium ion secondary battery, a positive electrode contains a lithium composite oxide represented by general formula (1): Li<SB>x</SB>M<SB>1-y</SB>L<SB>y</SB>O<SB>2</SB>(0.85≤x≤1.25; 0≤y≤0.50; element M is at least one kind selected from the group comprising Ni and Co; element L is at least one kind selected from the group comprising alkali earth elements, transition elements other than Ni and Co, rare-earth elements, group IIIb elements, and IVb elements).
