PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording or reproducing apparatus with a playlist preparation guide function that allows to easily perform editing as checking a thumbnail on a screen, capable of easily producing management information (playlist) of the reproduce sequential position of a chapter and a title. SOLUTION: It easily produces a playlist by selecting the desired thumbnail in the two or more thumbnails and arranging it in a selection thumbnail display volume 85b, in conjunction with producing the thumbnail of a program (the chapter and the title) and list displaying the two or more produced thumbnails on the thumbnail display volume 85a of the screen.
