<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image encoding apparatus having excellent color reproducibility. <P>SOLUTION: The color image encoding apparatus has a visual characteristic operation means 6 for receiving luminance signals of divided blocks and two color difference signals and outputting control information based on a visual characteristic. The visual characteristic operation means 6 comprises a means for calculating a dispersion value of luminance signals of respective blocks, a means for outputting a DC component of a luminance signal, a means for measuring the DC components of three primary colors R, G, B from the luminance signal and two color difference signals, and a means for calculating the ratios of the DC component of the luminance signal to the DC components of the three primary colors R, G, B. A quantization control means 4 comprises a quantization control information generation means for generating quantization control information based on the dispersion value of luminance signals and a generated code value and a means for correcting the quantization control information by using the ratios of the DC component of the luminance signal to the DC components of the three primary colors R, G, B to supply the corrected quantization control information to a quantization means 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
