PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet type electrolytic capacitor which is thin and has high electrostatic capacity density and improved connection strength, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: The sheet type electrolytic capacitor is configured by: bonding a smooth surface of a valve metal sheet body 12 on a resin sheet 11; forming a valve metal roughening layer 13 on a surface opposite to the valve metal sheet body 12 except at a partial unroughened part; forming a valve metal oxide film1 14 and a solid electrolytic layer 15 in order on the valve metal roughening layer 13; and forming a resin layer 17 covering the whole valve metal sheet body 12, wherein the solid electrolytic layer 15 and the unroughened part on the valve metal roughening layer surface of the valve metal sheet body 12 are led out to the same surface through a resin opening portion and the respective lead-out electrodes are connected to terminal electrodes 20A and 20B which are provided at both ends of the capacitor, have concave and curved surfaces with metallized internal surfaces, and are electrically insulated from the valve metal sheet body 12.
