An amplifier circuit for delivering an output signal which varies in amplitude and in phase or frequency, has a power amplifier, an amplitude feedback circuit and a phase or frequency feedback circuit, both constituting closed loops together with said power amplifier, and at least one of said feedback circuits has its gain controllable in dependency of properties of the input or output signals, or both. A radio transmitter comprising such an amplifier circuit, a cellular telephone comprising such a radio transmitter, and a method for controlling an output stage in such a radio transmitter are disclosed. The use of the method in a mobile radio transmitter, preferably a mobile radio transmitter in a cellular telephone, is disclosed as well.
