<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biocompatibility-imparting agent causing biological reaction little by foreign substances and seldom subject to hydrolysis, and to provide a biocompatible material usable by blending with the agent and having cell adhesive property. <P>SOLUTION: The biocompatibility-imparting agent comprises a benzamide derivative of formula(1)[ wherein, X is OH or NH<SB>2</SB>; R is O(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>CH<SB>3</SB>or H; m is an integer of 1-100; and n is an integer of11-17 ] as active ingredient.
