ZnS POWDER FOR MANUFACTURING SINTERED COMPACT TARGET FOR FORMING OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM PROTECTIVE FILM AND MIXED POWDER CONTAINING THE SAME POWDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ZnS powder capable of being uniformly mixed with SiO2powder and uniformalizing a target structure.

SOLUTION: The ZnS powder for manufacturing a sintered compact target for forming an optical recording medium protective film is obtained by hot-press-molding a powdery mixture prepared by uniformly dispersing the SiO2powder in ZnS powder of base powder. The ZnS powder has 0.01-2 μm average particle diameter. The powdery mixture for manufacturing the sintered compact target for forming the optical recording medium protective film is obtained by uniformly dispersing 1-50 mol% SiO2having 0.001-2 μm average particle diameter in 99-50 mol% ZnS powder. The powdery mixture is preferably granulated to have 1-50 μm average particle diameter. The sintered compact target for forming the optical recording medium protective film is manufactured by filling the powdery mixture in a hot press mold and hot-pressing at 700-1,200°C under 20-40 MPa under a vacuum or Ar gas atmosphere.
