PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance versatility of a stirling engine by responsively and positively controlling the motion of a power piston. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a displacer piston driving means 20 for driving a displacer piston 13, a displacer piston position detecting means 21 for detecting the position of the displacer piston 13, a power piston position detecting means 51 for detecting the position of the power piston 48 and an electronic control unit 37 for controlling the operation of the displacer driving means 20 based on the detection signals of both the piston position detecting means 21 and 51.
