SINTERED COMPACT, CUTTING TOOL USING SINTERED COMPACT AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SINTERED COMPACT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintered compact which is used as the material of a cutting tool to obtain the cutting tool having excellent wear resistance and chipping resistance, a method for manufacturing the same and a cutting tool using the sintered compact.

SOLUTION: The sintered compact contains cubic crystal sialon, a first compound and a second compound. The first compound is at least one of α-type sialon and β-type sialon and the second compound is at least one kind of an element selected from a group of silicon, magnesium, aluminum, zirconium and a group IIIA element in the periodic table and at least one of an element of oxygen and nitrogen.
